Recap

Niagara Falls learned the hard way on Saturday not to kick the ball deep to James Chambers. The senior running back scored seven touchdowns, three on returns, as Lockport defeated Niagara Falls, 49-9, in Class AA North. "Normally people don't kick it to him because that's what he does," said Lockport coach Greg Bronson. "We're used to getting the ball on the 40 because teams will try to squib it or on-side kick." Chambers had kickoff returns of 95 and 92 yards and a 75-yard punt return, to go with three rushing TDs and one receiving. He had 59 yards rushing on seven carries and three catches for 52 yards. "He touched the ball 13 times total so it wasn't like we were running him left and right," Bronson added. "The rest of the kids were tremendous. We had linemen blocking 40 yards down field. The kids go hard for one another."

Olivia Schmidt had a hat trick giving her 11 goals this season as the Holland girls soccer team beat JFK, 5-0, in ECIC IV. Anna Knopf recorded her third shutout of the season as the Lady Dutchmen improved to 4-2 overall. The game was marred by an injury to Holland junior MacKenzie Maier, who broke both bones in her leg about 10 minutes into the second half. She was taken off the field by ambulance and rushed to the hospital. Holland coach Leanne Gedraitis said she saw the play. "When I saw it, I thought she tweaked her ankle," she said. "The trainer pulled her sock off and you could see the bone was displaced for sure. Her mother just called and said both bones were broken. It was such a fluke thing. She got bumped and as she came down and her foot twisted. It wasn't like a hard hit or anything."
