C: Austin Zaepfel 2gRecap
Austin Zaepfel scored twice to help Canisius to a 5-1 win over St. Joe's in Monsignor Martin boys soccer. The Crusaders (4-1-1) built a 4-0 lead before St. Joe's got on the board. "Through the game, our possession was real good and we moved the ball around well and communicated well," Canisius coach Sam Belsito said. "We had some nice runs and once we jumped on the lead, we never looked back. "Our last two games we got out of our system. We weren't playing our system the way we've practiced it, so it was good to see the kids get back on board again. We had been kicking the ball all over the place the last two games and they settled down and moved the ball nicely today."|

SF: Sam Eggleston gwg; Matthew Gabalski shoRecap
In a wide open game, it was some timely defensive play and a corner kick execution that gave St. Francis a 1-0 overtime win over Nichols. Aaron Hayes took the corner kick in overtime and found Sam Eggleston who headed the ball into the net to give the Red Raiders the win. Matthew Gabliski recorded the shutout with special help from his defense. Midway in the second half, Nichols beat Gabliski but Drew Bassini ran behind and kicked the ball off the line to save the goal. "I think they are resilient," St. Francis coach Michael Smolinski said of his 4-3-1 team. "They keep trying the entire game and never give up. Even when things aren't going well for us, they never quit."ECIC II

Summary
SH: Brock Prizel 2g, gwgRecap
In a game of big swings, it was Sweet Home which got the final momentum push. Brock Prizel scored eight minutes into overtime to give the Panthers a 3-2 win over Iroquois in ECIC II. Sweet Home scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead at the break. But Iroquois took the opening kickoff the length of the field and scored seven seconds into the second half. That gave the Chiefs some confidence and they tied the game later that half. "Iroquois is a very physical team," Sweet Home coach Scott Martin said. "We've played them in the sectional championship the last two years so there's a bit of history there. Our games are always tight and Iroquois is a much better team than their record indicates." The Chiefs fell to 0-5 while Sweet Home improved to 6-1-1 with a team filled with new players after graduating a strong senior class. "We have a lot of inexperienced guys playing for us right now and we've been able to cut out some close games," Martin said. "I think as the season rolls on, that will be a good confidence booster for these guys."ECIC III

Summary
WN: Mary Crumlich shoRecap
Halftime adjustments allowed Williamsville North to create more offense en route to a 3-0 win over Williamsville Esat in ECIC field hockey. The Spartans took a 1-0 lead scoring in the 13th minute then added two more in the second half. "It was just a clean game and we moved the ball well," Spartans coach Sara Colombo said. "We made some adjustments at halftime to communicate better and get more shots on goal. We wanted to create a little more space and move the ball down field and get in the circle." Mary Crumlich earned the shutout for Williamsville North (3-1-1).Sweet Home |
