Autumn
Cool nights and crackling fires,
Creature comforts one desires.
Chicken soup in a china bowl,
Piping hot to warm the soul.
Purple mums in gardens abound,
Golden leaves cover the ground.
Crunchy apples, popcorn popping,
Doorbells ringing, neighbors stopping.
Conversation, each sensation
Makes me wonder why I wished
Summer would linger. It’s hardly missed.
Every season brings its own zest,
But Fall is my favorite.
I love it best. —Diana Notaro
