RAY OF HOPE—Little Mandee Bertone, a first-grader at Clinton Elementary School in West Seneca, was diagnosed in February with a rare blood disorder, Langerhams Cell Histiocytosis. To help raise funds to find a cure, friends and family are hosting Mandee’s Moment of Hope from 2 to 7 p. m. Saturday in the Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road. Tickets are $20. PASTA PATROL—It’s spaghetti dinner time from 5 to 7 p. m. Thursday in Sikora Post 1322, American Legion, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. For $6, you get spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, and a beverage..

BIG AND BIGGER— Since the Bills have the day off Sunday, one of the biggest attractions hereabouts is likely to be the Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service’s 10th annual Super Auction from 1:30 to 5 p. m. in Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew. Doors open at 1 for early-bird offerings.

There will be a huge array of silent auction items, door prizes and the “World’s Best Lottery Tree.” Admission is $5. Proceeds benefit the service’s daily broadcast readings of newspapers, books and magazines for the blind. For info, call 821-5555.

STOCK UP—The Ladies Sodality of St. James Catholic Church, 500 Terrace Blvd., Depew, holds its sixth annual holiday meat raffle Friday in the parish hall. In addition to steak, ham, turkey and shrimp, there are money prizes, a theme basket auction and split club. Doors open at 6 p. m. Admission, $5, includes refreshments.

The Home School Association of St. John Vianney School hosts its annual meat raffle Saturday in the school cafeteria, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park. Doors open at 6 p. m., raffles start at 7. Admission is $5, adults only, and includes a roast beef sandwich and a beverage. For tickets and table reservations, call 812-5194.

LOOKING BACK—Featured speaker at Military Heritage Day at 2 p. m. Saturday in the North Tonawanda History Museum, 54 Webster St., is a former mayor of the Lumber City, Ed Wiater, who was a reporter at the Buffalo Courier-Express during his term in office from 1972 to 1975.

The museum also is holding a chowder sale starting at 2 p. m. Saturday. The chowder, created by Ava’s Place, is $5 a quart, with proceeds helping to pay off the museum’s mortgage. Advance orders are a good idea. Call 213-0554.
