ACT NATURALLY— There will be prizes galore as the Hamburg Natural History Society holds its 14th annual Penn Dixie Fundraiser from 7 to 9 p. m. Thursday in Romanello’s South Restaurant, 5793 South Park Ave., Hamburg.
Among the items to be offered in silent and regular auctions are an autographed Buffalo Bills 50th anniversary football, two tickets to the Bruce Springsteen concert in HSBC Arena on Nov. 23, a lottery ticket scarecrow and a variety of gift baskets and gift certificates. Saved until the end of the evening are drawings for Sabres tickets and a Celestron telescope.
Tickets are $20 advance, $25 at the door, and include hors d’oeuvres and a door prize ticket. There’s a cash bar. Donations also are welcome. For info, call 627-4560.

BREATH OF LIFE— Friends and family are holding a benefit from 2 to 11 p. m. Saturday for Shelly Preischel of the Gowanda area. Suddenly afflicted with asthma in her 30s, it kept getting worse until she was unable to work. Now her hopes are with the Cleveland Clinic, where she is on the list for a double lung transplant.
The benefit takes place in the Moose Club, 210 Aldrich St., Gowanda, and features lots of music—live by the Blues Hounds, the Daily Planet and Shaky Ray, plus deejay artistry by DC Sound. MATURE AND PURRING— Kittens may be cute, but an older cat can be more settled down and companionable. The Ten Lives Club in the Southtowns is making it easier to bring home a friendly cat age 5 and older in its Senior Kitty Program, which waives the regular adoption fee of $75 and, if needed, could include a month’s supply of food. SWEET DEAL—Kids who just can’t eat any more Halloween candy can turn it in for cash later this week at the dental offices of Dr. Nicholas Rodo, 2799 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
During his “Cash for Candy” event, his office will accept candy from youngsters from 8 a. m. to noon Thursday through Saturday. All they have to do is walk in and have it weighed, and Rodo will give them $5 a pound. In addition, he will contribute $5 for each pound of candy to our troops in Afghanistan.
