••• STOVETOP SHOWDOWN— Think you know your way about the kitchen? Then sign yourself up to challenge the Nickel City Chefs in a Food Network-style cook-off starting next month. Deadline for applications is June 1.

And who are the Nickel City Chefs? Well, there are four of them—Adam Goetz, chef and owner of Sample in Allentown; Paul Jenkins, executive chef and managing partner of Tempo on Delaware Avenue; J. J. Richert, chef and owner of Torches on Kenmore Avenue; and Krista Van Wagner, chef and owner of Curly’s Grill in Lackawanna.

The first round, with challengers facing Van Wagner in a one-hour competition, will take place from 3 to 5:30 p. m. June 21 in the showcase professional kitchen areas at Artisan Kitchens& Baths at Appliance Associates, 200 Amherst St.

Celebrity guest judges and local food professionals will decide who’s best. The audience also will have a say. Tickets go on sale June 12. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Western New York. For details and applications, visit www.NickelCityChef.com.

West Seneca Central High School’s Class of 1964 is still searching for classmates to invite to its 45th reunion picnic from 7 a. m. to 9 p. m. Aug. 1 at Shelter 13 in Chestnut Ridge Park, Orchard Park. It’s a Bring Your Own Everything affair and a dish to pass will be appreciated. Fee is $5 to cover the cost of the shelter.
