TRIP BACK IN TIME— You could rent “The Grateful Dead Movie” and watch it at home, but nothing compares to seeing it on the big screen. Showing the film documentary of the band’s 1974 tour-ending five-night stand in San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom this weekend is the Palace Theater, 31 Buffalo St., Hamburg. It’s at midnight Friday.

THE REAL THING— Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 Main St., Attica, will hold its annual pancake supper from 4:30 to 7 p. m. Thursday. Suggested donation is $6 adults, $4 kids 5 to 12, for all-you-can-eat pancakes with real maple syrup and sausage. Maple products, courtesy of chairmen Lyle, Dottie and Florence Merle from Merle Maple Farm, also will be on the tables for sampling, as well as maple cotton candy.

DINNER OUT—Bethel Lutheran Church, 79 Brooklyn St., Portville, promises the best spaghetti in the area when it holds its annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p. m. Thursday. Dinners are $6 adults, $5 for small portions. Family pricing also will be available. Dinner includes meatballs, but meatless servings are available. Proceeds will pave the church parking lot.
Meanwhile, it’s an all-you-can-eat Swiss steak buffet dinner at 5 p. m. Thursday in Gainesville United Methodist Church, 7 S. Main St. (Route 19), south of Warsaw. There also will be live music. Tickets are $8. No charge for kids under 5.

SOUTHERN COOKING —Gooseneck Hill Waterfowl Sanctuary, the largest of its kind in the nation, will benefit as eight restaurants offer more than 50 food items in Taste of the Southtowns from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m. STARTING THE SEASON— While you’re in Southern Erie County on Sunday, schedule a stop at the craft show at the Holland Farmers’ Market on Route 16 next to the fire station. It will be open every Sunday from 8:30 a. m. to 1 p. m. through October. For info, call 537-9590.

SHUFFLE AND PLAY— The Orchard Park Home Bureau holds its annual card party and theme basket raffle at 2 p. m. Sunday in the St. John Vianney School cafeteria, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park. Admission is $5 for cards, $1 for the raffle. Coffee and dessert will be served. Men are welcome. What kind of games will be played? “Rummy, pinochle, dominoes, whatever they come up with if they get a group together,” says one of the organizers.
