PLANNING AHEAD — The Broadway Market, having launched the holiday season so successfully with a grand opening celebration last Thanksgiving weekend, is planning to do it again with Christmas Fair 2008 on Nov. 28 and 29.

To expand its variety of specialty and ethnic offerings, the market is looking for new vendors and performers — musicians, choirs and dance groups — to entertain at the fair. For applications and information, call 893-0705 or visit www.broadwaymarket.com . •••

DUCKING IN — Another sign that summer is winding down comes from Rosemary Miner, who reports that Sunday will be the final day of the season for the Gooseneck Hill Waterfowl Sanctuary at 5067 Townline Road, Delevan, home of two of the largest covered aviaries in the world. Hours are 2 to 5 p. m.

Visitors have a chance to see singing, dancing swans, geese and ducks, along with 1,000 koi fish. There’s also an opportunity to hand-feed them. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children. For

MUSTARD ROUND — Put the grill away on Labor Day and take your appetite down to Dug’s Dive, 1111 Fuhrmann Blvd., at the Small Boat Harbor, for the first Dog Days of Summer from 2 to 7 p. m. There will be plenty of hot dogs, a family fun zone and live music from Strictly Hip, the Tragically Hip tribute band.

If you’re hungry enough, you can even challenge pro eaters “Furious” Pete Czerwinski and Pierre “The Food Machette” Vincelette of Niagara Falls, Ont., the Canadian cheeseburger eating champion, for the $500 first prize or the $250 second prize in the Sahlen’s World Picnic Style Hot Dog Eating Championship, an official Association of Independent Competitive Eaters event.
