OLAF FUB SEZ: According to former Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg, born on this date in 1908, “If Columbus had an advisory committee, he would probably still be at the dock.”

TAKE THE CAKE — Meals on Wheels isn’t just for humans. Thanks to the Buffalo Companion Animal Network, AniMeals is in its third year of providing high quality pet food to dogs and cats that belong to Meals on Wheels recipients. It serves approximately 100 seniors and their pets.

However, the pet food company that was donating food to the program has withdrawn its support, says the network’s program coordinator and vice president Rosanne Higgins. To keep it going, the group is holding a special bake sale — a Bakery Cake Auction — from 6 to 10 p. m. Sunday at Floral Explorations, 1448 Hertel Ave. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and include wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres.

Cakes are being donated by leading bakeries such as Sweet Tooth, Carriage Trade Pastries, Gino’s Italian Bakery, Caramici’s,

Dolce, Il Florentino and, yes, even Sunny’s Doggy Bakery. The silent auction begins at 8 p. m. and former television newsman Rick Pfeiffer will send the cakes off to the highest bidders at 9. For information, call 836-0925.

FEELING FESTIVE— St. Bernard’s Church, 1988 Clinton St., is hosting its Feast & Fest from noon to 4 p. m. Sunday. Attractions include the traditional roast beef and pork chop dinner, booths, bell jars, a raffle and a senior silent auction, all in the parish’s air-conditioned hall.

SWING AND SWAY — Echoes of the Big Band Era will resound Sunday evening in Clarence Town Park, 10405 Main St., as the award-winning American Legion Band of the Tonawandas gives a free concert. Music starts at 7 p. m. and dancing is encouraged. If it rains, the concert will move to Clarence High School, 9625 Main St.

NEVER MIND — Disregard Tuesday’s notice for the 50th anniversary reunion for all classes from Cardinal Dougherty High School. Chairman Charley Czarnecki, Class of 1967, reports that it already happened — last year — and a fine time was had by all. He’ll keep us posted on their next get-together.
