ROAD TO RECOVERY — Jacquie Hirsch of Getzville was a former gymnast and a diver at Geneseo State College, where she was finishing up her work on a degree in early childhood education when she was stricken last fall with acute lymphocytic leukemia. She returned home for treatment at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, has received one bone marrow transplant and is building up strength to undergo another.
Later this month, two of her friends, Ashley Huer and Sandra Boccabella, plan to participate in the Chicago Triathlon, an event that supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in her honor.
Meanwhile, they are holding a fundraiser for her, “Tri For Jacquie,” from 5 to 7 p. m. Saturday in Andiamo Ristorante, 69 Delaware Ave. The $30 donation includes dinner, beer and well drinks. DINNER BELL — It’s spaghetti dinner time again from 5 to 7 p. m. Thursday in Sikora Post 1322, American Legion, 950 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. A $5 dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, and a beverage. For an extra dollar, you get a choice of homemade desserts.
