HEARTFELT — Benefit events don’t get much more musical than the one being held for young Nikolas Vincent Perrone from 3 p. m. to midnight Saturday in Mohawk Place, 47 E. Mohawk St. There will be 15 bands, along with food, raffles and auctions. Tickets are $20.
Nikolas, son of Amherst residents James and Shanlee Perrone, who recently were transplanted to South Carolina, was born on Valentine’s Day with a rare congenital heart defect called Transposition of the Greater Arteries.
Hours after his birth, he was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for three heart surgeries that took more than 18 hours. Cardiologists tell his parents he should be able to lead a normal life but won’t rule out more surgery.
Proceeds from the benefit will pay for Niky’s medical bills, which total more than $50,000 and are covered only partly by insurance. For info or to donate auction items, contact Denise Perrone at damndatcat@adelphia.net.

Children’s items should be marked appropriately. For information, call Cecile Wilson at 483-0101.
