LIGHTS . . . CAMERA — Time is running out to put together your fantastic entry for the I Love NY Short Film Contest, in which you depict what you adore about the Empire State in 60 seconds of video. Deadline is July 15 to submit it to www.metacafe.com/iloveny.
A panel of celebrity judges, including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tina Fey and our former colleague, Anthony Bannon, now director of the George Eastman House in Rochester, will decide the winners.
Prizes, which include camcorders, a scholarship and airline tickets, will be given for best overall film, best young filmmaker 18 and under, best
student filmmaker and best regional film in six regions. The winning film will air on NBC during Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and many other places, including on the TV screens in JetBlue flights.

BIRD CALL — Did you know that the two largest covered aviaries in the world are right here in Western New York? According to the folks at Gooseneck Hill Waterfowl Sanctuary, they’ve got them and they’re opening for the season starting Sunday.
Gooseneck Hill, located at 5067 Townline Road, Delevan, will be open from 2 to 5 p. m. every Sunday in July and August for viewing of more than 350 endangered and protected swans, geese and ducks, some of whom are babies. Visitors also can hand-feed the birds. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children and seniors.
