‘Towpath’ would be more suitable name

Kevin Gaughan’s Viewpoints article makes so much sense, it’s a wonder that all of his ideas haven’t yet been adopted. Especially good is his plan for using history-filled names for local places: Erie Canalside, Buffalo Harbor and Buffalo Real. Yes, let’s do it.

I have another suggestion. Why does our Riverwalk have the same name as dozens of other cities? It was the towpath and should be called “The Towpath.” You can’t get more historic than that. Where else did a canal follow a riverbank with mules and then horses pulling barges? Signs and pictures should be posted to show our younger generations why it’s called the towpath. The trail along the canal should have this name all across the state. It would be great for tourism.
