Time to recognize Palestinian state
Muslim Arabs have lived in ancient Palestine for about 1,500 years; Jews began settling there in the 1880s. When Palestinian Jews declared the state of Israel in 1948, President Harry Truman was the first major international leader to recognize it, and the rest is history.
During the current Israeli bombardment of Gaza, ABC News recorded a Palestinian man distraught in front of his blown-up house. “Why do they want to kill us?” he said. “We just want to live in peace, in our own country.”
And that, of course, is the core of the problem. If President Obama recognized a Palestinian state, a main issue of the conflict would be instantly solved.
