Right to bear arms isn’t most important

A recent letter writer claimed that the right to bear arms was the most important right. I strongly disagree. Rights to free speech, freedom of religion and to a fair trial are just as important or more important. This obsession with blocking every reasonable safety check on the purchase and use of guns is a social disease. Purchase and ownership of pistols and shotguns is acceptable with proper background checks. Military-style weapons are for the military. If you want to use them, join the armed forces, Reserve or National Guard.
