Religious Art Center showcases treasures
My suburban friends and I were pleased to view the vestment treasures on display at the Religious Art Center in Black Rock. A docent helped us interpret not only the many embroidered treasures, but the murals on the church walls, the Stations of the Cross set in the German-made, jewel-like stained-glass windows and the statuary contributed by 45 different congregations, including a stunning artifact from Temple Beth El.
Our tour evolved into a lively discussion of Buffalo history and the important role of its churches. We enjoyed seeing all of the items at arm’s length and hearing the stories. Hurray for the important mission of this art center and its knowledgeable volunteers who “spread the fire.”
