Poloncarz merits praise for taking sensible stance
County Executive Mark Poloncarz deserves a standing ovation from the weary, overburdened taxpayers of Erie County for his recent common-sense remarks concerning a new stadium for a football team known as the Buffalo Bills.
After an “investment” of more than $130 million for updating the present playground, the mere mention of spending nearly a billion dollars for a new concrete palace could bring property owners to the point of thinking about joining those who thought it wise to say adieu to the region where residents cannot say no.
Astute taxpayers could only agree with the county executive when he stated that the ultimate beneficiaries of such an exorbitant enterprise will be the team owners, who would realize an increase in revenues by people who actually believe a football team is vital to the well-being of a community.
Thanks to Poloncarz, many will find solace in knowing there is still a clear-thinking elected official in Western New York.
