Not everyone deserves the right to bear arms

I am writing in response to the letter writer who stated the Second Amendment is the most important amendment. What about those prohibiting discrimination against sex and age, or unlawful search and seizure, or the right to an attorney?

I am a retired New York State trooper who had an AR-15 pointed at me and my partner while responding to a domestic call. Not everybody deserves the right to bear arms – just like not everybody deserves to have a driver’s license in New York State. It is a privilege granted by the government after criteria are met by the individual.
