Mugel’s visionary plan for Trico moves forward

As general counsel for Trico Products Corp. from 1992 to 1998, I was very pleased to read in The News about the most recent redevelopment plans for the long vacant Trico building on Washington and Ellicott streets.

What is not publicly known is that Al Mugel, a former member of the Trico board of directors and a senior partner at the law firm of Jaeckle, Fleischmann & Mugel, was the visionary who as far back as 1993 pushed the board and senior management of Trico to stabilize the building and have it redeveloped in concert with the then distant plans for a Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. With Mugel’s leadership, many initiatives were taken that sustained the building’s viability for reality to catch up with his vision.

Mugel would be very pleased to see his vision now embraced and moving forward. As with the former Trico building on Main Street, now known as the TriMain Building, the best memorial to the past is a living memorial for the future.
