Mother shares blame for son’s tragic death

I continue to be saddened by the untimely, unnecessary and brutal death of a 5-year-old Eain Clayton Brooks. While it is apparent that Child Protective Services did not do an adequate job of investigating and intervening, and shares a great deal of responsibility for this tragic outcome, I cannot help but wonder what this boy’s mother was doing. Did she not notice that her son had bruises that seemed to occur when she was not around?

And as a parent and grandparent, if I saw any unexplained injuries more than once, the child would have been held in my custody and, if necessary, taken to an undisclosed location to prevent further abuse, until I could get the proper authorities involved.

I hope the appropriate agencies will follow the newest child in this family. She does not deserve such a fate.
