Love shown by gay couples will change hearts, minds
For centuries, the Evangelical Christian community has made the accusation that the practice of homosexuality is nothing more than an excuse to commit deviant and sinful acts. Yet the legalization of same-sex marriage in 19 states and the District of Columbia is proving just the opposite. The fact that so many gay and lesbian Christian couples want to enter into the commitment of a monogamous marriage is a testament to their depth of love for each other and their desire to publicly commit to the same covenant wedding vows that are enjoyed and cherished by heterosexual Christians.
I believe that it won’t be a theological debate that will change the hearts and minds of most Christians. It will be the authentic Christ-like love demonstrated by gay Christians in all walks of life, including their marriage, their family and their church. It was Jesus who said in John 13:35, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my followers.” To be honest, that’s what changed my heart; the heart of a straight, evangelical Christian.
