Let’s leave no footprints at Corporate Challenge
Recently, the City of Buffalo once again opened its doors to the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Race. The course runs through the Olmsted Park heartland, ending in Delaware Park. Almost 12,000 people registered for this event from nearly 400 companies. It’s a great event that ought to be continued. However, just imagine the number of water bottles, energy bars and disposable items participants bring.
I regularly enjoy a bike ride in Delaware Park and was stunned to see the two heaping mountains of plastic bagged waste, not to mention the long line of recycle totes filled to capacity left the day after the Challenge.
Event organizers ought to adopt the policy of our national parks department: Enjoy the walk, hike, ride but leave no footprint. Take what you bring back home with you.
