Israel is defending its right to survive
The writer of a recent letter excoriating Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and of the Gaza Strip in particular should consider the following facts.
The United Nations, in the Goldstone Report, found Israel’s restrictions on imports to the Gaza Strip to be legal in light of the relentless murderous terrorist attacks emanating from Gaza and directed at innocent civilians.
Israel has every bit as much right as anyone else to build towns and houses in the West Bank, because it is disputed territory.
Israel has every right to use military means to defend its citizens from outside attack. In fact, it is obligated to do so as a member state of the United Nations.
Jews have lived in what is now Israel for more than 3,000 years. To compare Israelis to outside conquerors is to falsify history.
Defending one’s own citizens against outside attack isn’t apartheid; failure to do so, on the other hand, would be suicide. How many Americans would tolerate being rocketed, blown up, shot, stabbed, kidnapped and maimed for years on end before insisting their government take military action to protect them?
