Ignoring driving ban to go tanning is idiotic

Regarding the top item in the Jan. 14 Buzz column, the situation described is definitely not “the spirit that made our town great.” At the very least, violating the driving ban during the blizzard indicates recklessness and ignorance of health and accident risks. At worst, this woman displays a serious symptom of obsession and compulsion to pursue a self-destructive practice. We can be grateful that no one with a legitimate need to be on the road got in the way of her spirited quest for skin cancer. And as an aside, it puzzles me why tanning can continue to be offered by so-called health clubs, given the scientific evidence of the tanning/cancer link.
