Gun owners will unite to protest NY SAFE Act

The historic “shot heard around the world” is repeating itself on Saturday. Those folks who believe in the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and especially the Second Amendment’s “right to bear arms shall not be infringed,” will be safely discharging one round at noon that day. They will be doing this to let everyone around them know that they believe in those rights and protest the NY SAFE Act.

Many people all around New York and the country still believe in those rights. Those who don’t, and those law enforcement officials and politicians who don’t or who are on the fence about enforcing such anti-American laws, should pay attention to how many of their neighbors do. People who don’t know any other way to protest their gun rights slowly being eroded away can safely and responsibly exercise them at noon on Saturday.

The overly abused phrase, “these laws are for the safety, welfare and protection of all citizens,” has been exposed as disingenuous. Patriotic, law-abiding Americans are fed up with the creeping erosion of all Americans’ personal liberties under the guise of “safety.” Every law-abiding American wants safety for our children and all citizens.

The problem with making rash, emotional laws based on rare occurrences is that we turn law-abiding citizens into criminals and don’t do anything to thwart the crimes or punish the criminals. The SAFE Act is one of those laws. As Ben Franklin said, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

On Saturday at noon, make your opinion loud and clear. Make it safe, make it responsible, but make it known that American rights are not political toys.
