Does city have a duty to clear snowy walks?
I wonder, what is the responsibility of the city in keeping sidewalks and crosswalks passable during snowy weather? Driving on Niagara Street, I saw a person climbing over a 3-foot wall of snow to board a bus slip, fall, bounce off the corner of the bus and fall onto the street.
This is also of personal concern since I’m eight months pregnant and walk down Allen Street five days a week to work at Roswell Park. This journey can be challenging at times – traversing the snow mounds at crosswalks and crossing over icy patches and unshoveled sidewalks. With all of the money and energy flowing into developing the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, including its Go BNMC smart commuting choices initiative, I hope improved sidewalk access during snowy weather will be addressed.
