Destruction of Israel is Palestinians’ goal

A recent letter writer blamed the present impasse in peace talks on Israel, distorting the history of the conflict. To begin with, the West Bank and Gaza Strip were not Palestinian land prior to 1967, but were instead occupied by Jordan and Egypt. The PLO Charter of that time specifically rejected those areas as a part of Palestine, because then, as now, the real agenda of the Palestinians was and remains Israel’s destruction.

The Israeli towns in the West Bank take up 2 percent of the land, and Israel has offered land swaps in exchange. The response from Mahmoud Abbas has been the usual – no end of the conflict, no recognition of Israel as a Jewish state and no renunciation of the demand for an unlimited Palestinian population transfer into Israel, which would destroy Israel as a Jewish state. As ever, there will be no peace until Palestinians want their own peaceful state more than they want to destroy Israel.
