Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion is giving region big boost

Western New York is fortunate to be the focus and recipient of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s vision and support for economic growth, opportunity and sense of state community. Consider the breadth of his administration’s efforts for our community, spanning from the Buffalo Billion announcement, to direct support of and resolution of the Hamister Group’s hotel project, to disaster recovery payments for citizens of Lockport after last summer’s storm.

The governor has, like few in recent history, shown an interest in Western New York that is not channeled through only a select few, ensured that no constituency has been overlooked and demonstrated a personal commitment to whom he serves.

I witnessed his sincerity of voice and purpose when he personally handed a check to a homeowner in Lockport, and his expression of gratitude for those who govern that city and county – many of whom are not of his party affiliation. It is the character of this governor that everyone matters, and he clearly shows every day in his administration’s actions that everyone matters in deeds, and not just in words.

As a former mayor in a small village, I found that local politics is a very intimate thing, since you are making daily decisions in that setting that affect the well-being and economics of your neighbors. Cuomo has, in a remarkable way, approached his job as governor in a similar way – everyone matters. His passion for the community is evident and is certainly shown clearly in the good things he is helping make happen right here in Western New York.
