Cuomo should use his own money for prisoners
Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to spend $5,000 per year for each prisoner to earn a college degree. I have a suggestion. He presently has about $33 million in his campaign fund. Why doesn’t he take roughly $17 million out of his campaign fund and set up a pilot program?
The $17 million would pay for 1,100 prisoners for two years. After the two years, he should issue a report on the success or failure of the program and, if successful, have a referendum by the taxpayers if they want to pay for this.
Cuomo also wants election reform and this is a good start. Just as he said, “You don’t need 10 bullets to kill a deer,” his saying should be, “You don’t need $33 million to win an election.”
