Campaign reform is desperately needed

All of us – including the vast majority of Americans who want to reduce the influence of money in government – should immediately reject the trashing of public financing of political campaigns recently expressed by a letter writer to The News. The writer is a spokesman for an organization that promotes the idea that “money is speech” – and the more money funneled into campaigns the better, especially when it comes from big donors who refuse to disclose their names.
