Buffalo will never grow while schools are failing

“Tell me about Buffalo’s school district?” A constant query, I am sure, to our folks trying to promote Buffalo or bring new business here. Should they say, “Well, after years of division, disagreement, embarrassing low test scores and a failed busing program, the Buffalo School Board is poised to move the district forward”?

Dixon’s work ethic seemed excellent, her knowledge of the district was extensive and she was passionate about guiding her students. Why wasn’t she retained? Many of us believe we know. She should have been told the truth about her time there.

After 40 years of low test results and a failed system of busing students, the general consensus is that new leadership is in dire need. The board needs to do the student body a favor and hire a leader whom everyone can rally behind. Race and gender need to be put aside; abilities, qualifications and passion for education need to be on the forefront of the board members’ minds. Our community cannot have optimistic economic growth with a failing school district.
