Buffalo VA hospital is doing a terrific job
Anyone who has followed the news recently could get the impression that Veterans Affairs is an evil organization not taking care of veterans. No doubt there have been some serious shortcomings at some facilities that absolutely need to be resolved, but my personal experience with the VA has been much different.
I have been obtaining care at the Buffalo VA Medical Center since I was discharged from the Army in 1982 and in my 32 years I have had nothing but great care by a group of dedicated and caring health professionals. I have had a minimum of two appointments a year and seen a number of care groups and have never had a problem getting a timely appointment or receiving great care.
A good example is June of last year, when I came in for an appointment exactly a month early, as I evidently put in the wrong month on my iPad. The receptionist asked me to wait and went and talked to the doctor, an outstanding and caring physician I have been seeing for over 20 years. Within a couple hours, he had worked me into his already full schedule. Both the receptionist and the doctor went out of their way so I wouldn’t need to come back.
Based on my long experience at the Buffalo VA, the kind of negative experience I see in the news is inexplicable. When you see all this negative press, remember that most of us have received excellent care and that any large organization has its problems.
