Buffalo needs more immigration judges
I read in the Buffalo News on May 1 that Vive La Casa, the political refugee house in Buffalo, has serious financial problems. Many refugees are staying at this facility for months, if not years. Why? There is only one immigration judge in town, Judge Philip Montante, who came from Miami.
I know of one political refugee, in Buffalo for almost five years, who has a dossier of torture and abuse two inches thick. He has been called to the immigration court nine times in four years. He appears in court every time, but the judge dismisses the case every time, i.e. “come back next year.” This young man has a work permit, is going to school and works close to 40 hours a week. This young man would be a real asset to this country.
