Buffalo could capitalize on its ‘signature scent’

I recently spotted a local person sporting a T-shirt boasting, “My City Smells Like Cheerios,” and it got me to wonder why we haven’t installed a tourist attraction to take advantage of Buffalo’s “signature scent.” Similar to the simulated chocolate factory attraction that greets visitors entering Hershey Amusement Park in Pennsylvania, why not create a “General Mills” experience center?

Visitors could take an automated, indoor ride through the entire farm-to-table process of creating America’s favorite breakfast cereals. Shorts films, interactive displays and a gift shop featuring all the characters associated with the food group would make a real attraction for out-of-towners. Sports stars and celebrities could be brought in for weekend cereal box signings, as well as costumed characters for a kids “meet and greet” would make for a fun family activity inside the city.
