Bishop’s decision cannot be justified

Bishop Richard Malone’s decision to close St. Mary of the Lake School must be reversed.

The Diocese of Buffalo set forth criteria for Catholic schools to remain functional. St. Mary of the Lake School fulfilled all requirements, including financial stability. Yet Malone ignored the criteria and decided to close St. Mary and permitted other Catholic schools, which lacked the criteria, to remain open. Why? Perhaps that is a hundred-thousand-dollar question, or is it a million-dollar question? Only the diocese and the bishop know the truth. But the truth is, his decision is unjustified, incomprehensible and lacks rationale. Rather than promoting Catholic education and values, Malone has sabotaged and crippled them.

I encourage all Catholics to write to Pope Francis. Only he can intercede and correct this grave injustice.
