Amherst should improve park named for war hero
I compliment the Amherst Town Board on its decision to rename the park on Hopkins Road in honor of war hero Billy Wilson. However, just renaming the park does not solve the problem of its underutilization. The town must next use the funds available for upgrading the facilities, so that the park is attractive to more families in the Getzville and East Amherst neighborhoods.
The existing contaminated equipment should be replaced, and a gazebo and playground equipment suitable for handicapped and non-handicapped children should be added. An entirely new park would be a very fitting tribute to Staff Sgt. William R. “Billy” Wilson III.
