Memorial aims to honor all heroes lost since 9/11
Through the process of organizing, creating and raising funds for the Western New York Iraq Afghanistan Memorial, we have worked diligently to make sure that we have researched and documented the names of all of our fallen heroes. This includes every one of our neighbors, friends, brothers and sisters from the eight western counties who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country since the attacks of 9/11.
Recently the grandmother of one of our fallen, whom we had not located in our research, wrote to The News expressing her desire to make sure that all heroes who have died are added to the memorial. Her grandson will be honored on the memorial. I promise that we will never forget his sacrifice or the sacrifices of the other 66 heroes our region has given in service to our country. In designing the memorial, we have included a place for those killed in non-combat related incidents since the wars began. Including her grandson, 13 people will now be honored there.
We are doing our best to make sure that we have located information on all of our heroes. We need every family to review the list on the “In Memoriam” page at www.wnyiam.org and contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org">email@example.com with either approval of the names as spelled or desired changes. Specifically we need to make sure that we have the exact spelling of the name and how the family wants it to appear. This includes the families of any of our fallen whom we may not have found during our research. Please rest assured that we want to honor those we have served with, those who have sacrificed and those whom we need to live our lives in honor of.
