Medina Marching Band did an outstanding job

Thanks to The News for the Thanksgiving Day article about the New York State Field Band Competition, which celebrated its 40th year of high school marching band competition this year. Hundreds of Western New York students participate in this activity every year, supported by as many teachers, parents and volunteers.

The article failed to mention that the Medina Mustang Marching Band won the Small Schools 1 Division for the fifth year in row, and is one of only two bands statewide to ever win a championship more than four years in a row. Given that Medina comes from a much smaller district than most of the schools it competes against (only Le Roy is smaller), and from a less affluent community than any of the other schools mentioned, this accomplishment is particularly remarkable. Congratulations to this remarkable group of students and their leaders.

We look forward to reading more about the field band competition in The News in the future.
