Many still mourning the loss of Holy Angels
The News’ recent publication of the picture of students celebrating the beginning of Mount St. Mary’s 87th academic year brought back fond memories for me as a proud 1954 graduate of Holy Angels Academy. It also prompted renewed sadness at its unexpected and abrupt permanent closing after its recent much-heralded expansion. It is a shame that the academy’s hundred-plus years of dedication to the education of young girls in preparation for leadership roles in our society has come to an end. I am thankful that the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, who so influenced my life during my years at Holy Angels, continue to prepare young women for leadership roles at D’Youville College.
