Local food pantries need donations, too
We read with interest the recent News article titled, “Collecting food for the hungry becomes big business in WNY.” The article referred to the Food Bank of Western New York and other major food pantries, but to complete the picture it needs to be noted that there are other local food pantries that operate independently of the Food Bank. They are supported solely by the people and organizations in their local area.
One such pantry is the Alden/Marilla Pantry, which has been in operation since 1982 and is housed in St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church on West Main Street in the Village of Alden. We currently serve 60 to 65 families per month and have more than 100 families registered to receive service. With the holidays close at hand, we encourage people to contribute wherever they can.
