Killing of family pet is absolutely horrifying

I commend the Nov. 14 letter in The News in regard to Michael Tortorici, who is charged with killing his German shepherd, Max. I, too, was appalled and horrified when I read about the vicious and cruel way this person allegedly tortured his own pet dog to death by beating and shooting him in the stomach.

What a shame that Tortorici was able to be released from jail after posting $25,000 bail, especially since he has proven that he is a known threat to animals. Let’s hope that if convicted, he is forced to serve some jail time as a consequence of this horrific crime, and that he is given the same treatment by his fellow prisoners that he felt he had the right to inflict on his poor, undeserving pooch. R.I.P., Max.
