Heed pontiff’s message, have compassion for poor

Pope Francis continues to be outspoken on both Catholic and world issues, with particular emphasis on compassion and concern for the poor and less fortunate. His messages seem to be positively received by both Catholics and non Catholics.

It puzzles me that some of the same people who acknowledge and agree with his concern will then go and vote for political representatives who intend to cut funding for food stamps and social services and deny health benefits to large numbers of fellow Americans. Ironically, some of these same voters are they themselves enjoying government health care and other benefits. It appears a contradiction of values.
