Father Baker Guild supports canonization

I am writing to comment on the Viewpoints article, “Will Father Baker ever become a saint?” While it did an excellent job educating the faithful on the history and process of canonization, Timothy Allan inaccurately shared important facts related to Father Baker’s cause. I am a longtime donor to the Our Lady of Victory Institutions and follow the progression of Baker’s road to sainthood closely.

The article stated that no Guild exists to further promote and financially support his cause. This is not true. I have been a member of the Father Baker Guild for many years and I enjoy the periodic updates on the cause that are provided to donors.

Allan outlined the significance of an individual’s heroic virtue, which is verified by the pope when he names an individual venerable. The article created the perception that this is still under consideration for Baker, yet the distinguished title has already been granted. I had the honor of attending the Mass that marked this milestone in March 2011, and there is a display in the Basilica Museum dedicated specifically to the events surrounding this advancement.
