Citizens don’t need military-style guns
I am a longtime Erie County gun owner and hunter. I learned to shoot when I was 6, started hunting at 16, got my pistol permit at 18 and now, at 55, I support the SAFE Act. A previously law-abiding citizen killed 26 people in Newtown, Conn., with military-style assault weapons, and that scene has been repeated many times across the country. Law-abiding citizens do not need military weapons.
I don’t want to lose my guns and I have magazines that are now illegal, but I also don’t want to live in a society where I have to carry my pistol everywhere to protect myself from some deranged, previously law-abiding citizen with an assault rifle and 30-round clips. Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard lacks common sense; he refuses to enforce a law that is intended to protect his own men as well as the public at large.
