Burr’s comments show we are in deep trouble

My husband and I were reading our morning paper as usual when, much to our surprise, there was the solution to the country’s debt problem! According to Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., $24 billion a month could be saved simply by continuing the government shutdown and using the money that would be paid to the hundreds of thousands of government workers to pay our national debt. According to Burr, this is “manageable for some time.” Seriously? This is an example of the people we elected to run our country?

Are we insane? I had to read this article several times because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. What happens to these government workers whose income is now going to our national debt? I wonder how long it is “manageable” for them?

Actually, I find it very frightening that a congressman would even make such insensitive remarks. Even more cause for concern is that obviously he actually believes this is a good idea. God help our children and grandchildren.
