Ability to work hard made this country great
I am writing in response to the Sept. 28 letter, “Human nature dooms conservatives to failure.” The writer begins by declaring that conservatives don’t seem to realize that people will always want the most they can get with the least effort. He then proceeds to say this is a trend in the progressives’ favor. Are progressives proud of this mentality? Do they actually support creating a lazy, entitlement-driven society?
Conservatives are well aware that many people do not want to work for life’s rewards. If progressives believe that wanting people to work hard for the betterment of themselves and their fellow man is “forcing what’s best for everyone down their throats,” then we are indeed beginning to lose the energy and passion that has made this country great. Once upon a time, laziness had a negative connotation. Now it is a trend that groups are willing to hang their hats on.
So, if you are willing to just throw your hands in the air and say, “Oh, well, that’s human nature,” then join the progressives and ride the gravy train. Me, I will continue to work hard and expect others to do the same.
