City demanded casino, then put up roadblocks

Story tools:

In response to the letter, “When will Senecas finish stalled casino?”—where was this guy when the Senecas were looking for a place to build a new beautiful casino? If he was paying attention, he would know that the Senecas wanted to build a casino near the airport in Cheektowaga— a prime location on a main route in a safe area where there is a Thruway exchange and hotels.

Buffalo begged them to build in Buffalo; the Senecas said no. Then Buffalo threatened to take them to court if they didn’t build in Buffalo, so the Senecas started construction.

It was one thing after another from the city, they couldn’t do this, they couldn’t do that; and the Buffalo casino is now just what it should be—another abandoned building in a failing, crime-and arson-infested city.

Why isn’t anyone making a big stink about Batavia Downs racetrack and casino or the Hamburg Fairgrounds casino or the state lottery or OTB parlors? These are also forms of gambling. Why are these places OK? I guess it’s OK as long as the natives don’t try to build a casino.

When will the Senecas finish the Buffalo Creek Casino? When the city leaves them alone. It would be good for what’s left of Buffalo and it would bring business into the area.
