Annual Garden Walk ought to be expanded
We have an annual Garden Walk that so far has reached 300 showcases—front and back yards in splendor for us happy spectators. It can be one of Buffalo’s finest casual pastimes. Plus, it’s free.
I am a volunteer at South Park Botanical Gardens. I give a great deal of credit to whomever started this. However, it really should be four days: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. This summer, July 28 was a washout. So there was only Sunday to view at least 300 gardens. Also seniors, students and retired people would love to see more, with less people jams and more enjoyment for all.
Also, this event should be expanded. Have one in the spring to expose tulips, crocus, daffodils, azaleas and lilacs before they disappear. Have another showing in late fall when there is much reblooming —azaleas, mums, burning bush and so many others—to see in a golden-harvest cooler effect.
We have some of the world’s most beautiful flowers and plants on display here in Buffalo. Some sport the most aromatic fragrances. We horticulturists try to bring out the best in the season abounding in technicolor shape and petal sizes with choreographic movements on a breezy rainy day. It suddenly becomes a colorful living shower of flowers by God to relieve our stress and anxiety.
