Roswell is not the only place for cancer treatment

Story tools:

In 1998 I was diagnosed with an aggressive case of prostate cancer (Gleason Score 8). A community-based urologist operated and a community-based radiation oncologist provided the radiation. I remained in remission for 10 years due to their efforts.

Many people questioned why I didn’t go to Roswell Park Cancer Institute and I told them that any urologist could have done the surgery at any hospital in the Buffalo area. For this type of surgery Roswell Park was not the pantheon of oncology that marketing implies.

Dr. Kandala K. Chary hit the nail on the head in a July 6 “Another Voice” piece when mentioning Roswell Park’s ranking among cancer centers in the United States. Not even in the top 50!

I was very comfortable with my urologist and oncologist and their levels of expertise. I currently am receiving chemotherapy from a community-based medical oncologist and I am sure that the results I’ve received from these three doctors have been on par with or better than the treatment I could have received at Roswell.
