Many pro-lifers have adopted children
I am writing in response to the thoughtful letter encouraging those who consider themselves pro-life to adopt unwanted children. She would be happy to know that this is already occurring throughout the country. I know of several couples who have adopted babies the birth mother was unwilling or unable to keep.
Unfortunately, the real problem is the lack of babies available for adoption. Pro-life counselors often encourage pregnant women who are considering abortion to have their babies and then give them up for adoption. But the pregnant women often find that more emotionally traumatic than aborting them before they are born. If we could encourage more women to have the babies and then give them up for adoption, we would save many children’s lives and fulfill the desires of many who would like to adopt.
